The FTSE Small Cap index .FTSC closes flat, while the blue chips .FTSE end 0.1 percent weaker, and the mid caps .FTMC close down 0.8 percent.

Ceramics and household goods maker Portmeirion (PMGR.L) ends the session more than 16 percent lower after the company says it expects profit for the year to Dec. 31 will be significantly below market expectations on falling revenue in the U.S. market.

Optos (OPTS.L) closes over 3 percent higher as the eye examination equipment maker reports a 16 percent rise in annual revenue, in line with expectations, with earnings boosted by lower option expenses and tax charges, beating forecasts.
