Nikkei rises over 2 pct, rebounds from 3-week low
TOKYO, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average extended gains on Friday to rise more than 2 percent, with short-covering on expectations of a Wall Street recovery defying increasingly grim economic news.
At 0545 GMT the benchmark Nikkei .N225 climbed 176.12 points or 2.3 percent to 7,879.16. Earlier in the day, it fell as low as 7,406.18, its lowest since late October.
The broader TOPIX index was up 1.9 percent at 797.00. (Reporting by Rika Otsuka)
